May 30, 2010:

Many of you are asking how to reach Bari from Rome Fiumicino Airport.

The easiest and most convenient way is to catch an Alitalia flight: the AZ1601 departs at 10.20 a.m., and lands in Bari at 11.30 a.m. This is only one of the several flights connecting Rome with Bari during the day. EasyJet serves the Rome-Bari route, and maintains a strict policy on checked baggage. Please check with EasyJet before booking.

The most convenient option to fly out of Bari and back to Rome to connect with early morning US-bound flights is departing at 6.40 a.m. on the AZ 1602. This schedule leaves plenty of time to catch many connections.

Another option is to travel by train. A railroad station is located in the Fiumicino Airport terminal. There, it is possible to purchase a ticket for the whole round trip, which requires a transfer in Roma Termini (main railroad station). A shuttle train connects the airport with Roma Termini every 20-30 minutes. In Roma termini, the earliest departing train for Bari usually leaves at 2.00 p.m. and takes approx. 4-5 hours. It looks like a landslide cut a piece of the railroad mainline, and therefore a bus transfer time of 1.5 hrs. should be taken into account.

March 11, 2010:

The Grumo festival 2010 is enjoying an astonishing success! The number of students and prospective students is growing rapidly. Therefore, the Grumo Festival is working with the City of Binetto Administration in order to expand the number of local families interested in hosting festival participants. At the same time we are starting to create a waiting list for all students who will apply from this day on. Please, if you are a student and you are planning to apply, we encourage you to keep in contact with our Housing Coordinator, Donatella Burdi: donatellaburdi@grumofestival.com.

It is important that all students interested in possible hospitality with a local family apply as soon as possible to be included in our waiting list. Hospitality will be offered on a first come, first-served basis. As an alternative, we would like to encourage Grumo festival 2010 participants to start planning in advance their accommodation and to consider booking with local Bed and Breakfasts, Youth Hostels, Hotels, and other establishments. Some links are provided on the Information Links page of this website. As of today, July rates start at about $25.00 per person per night. Additionally, the Grumo Festival is looking into some agreements with local restaurants and pizzerias. One pizzeria in Grumo Appula should be able to offer two full (Italian) meals at about $27.00 (€18.00) per person per day. Agreements will be soon finalized. Please, notice that The Grumo Festival will not be responsible for these costs, which are left entirely to the individual participants.

Where possible, the Staff of the Grumo Festival will work tirelessly to pick up and drop off students from their accommodation locations at the beginning and at the end of each day. Most Bed and Breakfast, Hostels, and Hotels, are located in Bari or Bitetto, both conveniently connected to Grumo Appula and Binetto by railroad. Both Bitetto and Grumo Appula are located on the Ferrovie dello Stato railroad: the ride is approximately 3 miles. Both Binetto and Grumo Appula are located on the Ferrovie Appulo Lucane railroad: the ride is less than a mile. Bari is connected to Grumo Appula and Binetto with both railroads: the ride usually takes twenty-five minutes. A train schedule will be posted soon on this website.

Please, do not hesitate to contact a member of the Grumo Festival Executive Team at any time, should you have any questions.
